Seattle P Hernandez sent to DL

07/01/2008 -
Seattle, WA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Seattle pitcher Felix Hernandez was sent to the
15-day disabled list following Monday's 2-0 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Hernandez was helped off the field with a sprained left ankle in the fifth
inning of the previous Monday's 5-2 win over the New York Mets, and he hasn't
pitched since.
That was shaping up to be a banner night for Hernandez, who clubbed his first
major league homer, a grand slam off Johan Santana in the second inning. It
marked the first home run by a pitcher in Mariners history, and the first
grand slam by an American League pitcher since Cleveland's Steve Dunning did
it versus Oakland's Diego Segui on May 11, 1971.
However, Hernandez was injured when he tried to cover home plate on a wild
pitch later in the game, when Carlos Beltran slid into Hernandez's ankle.
Hernandez has a record of 6-5 with a 2.83 ERA this season.
The Mariners replaced Hernandez on the roster by recalling left-handed pitcher
Cesar Jimenez from Triple-A Tacoma.
Because of the injury, the Mariners will turn to reliever Ryan Rowland-Smith
to start Tuesday's game versus the Blue Jays. It will be Rowland-Smith's first
career start in the majors.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson
JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.
Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.
MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .
''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''
Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.
He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.
''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''
Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.
Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.
With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
